TMR Invitational Gof Tournament

TMR INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Judd Cozier won the gross prize and Lennox Mirjah and Janet Crosswaite won the two net flights at the TMR Invitational Golf Tournament at Rockley Golf Club. The popular event is one of the top tournaments on the Rockley calendar and it attracted a large number of entries including visitors to the island from overseas. There were three competitions on the day and in addition to the main event the juniors also had a nine-holes tournament and the staff of TMR Sales and Service Ltd joined in the spirit of the occasion by having their own competition at the end of the field.

This was the second time Lennon Mirjah has won the TMR Invitational and his net 65 in the 0-16 handicap flight was one shot better than German visitor Ellen Farmer and Club Captain Clarence Hiles. The 17 and up flight was decided on Stableford points, but it also produced some excellent scores with Janet Crosswaite in top form with 43 points closely followed by Darcy Gibson on 42 and Mark Pearson on 40.

However, the big talking point of the day was the hole-in-one at the second hole by Henderson Forde, which won the Nearest-to-the-Pin Award with some ease. Paul Lewis won the other prize for closest to the pin at the 6th and 15th.

The consistent Xavier Wiggins won the Youth competition with a score of 44 and Christopher Cobley finished just four shots behind.

TMR Sales and Service Ltd was well represented by its management team and Managing Director Jimmy Clarke and Chairman Peter Thompson made the Presentation of Awards to a packed clubhouse at the end of the competition. Club Captain Clarence Hiles thanked TMR for their sponsorship and also for their support of the youth programme through golfing coach Michael Marshall.

Rockley’s 2011 Calendar of Events continues with Saturday competitions every week leading up to the prestigious Rockley Open in mid-February.
