This month’s Banks Monthly medal was as always well supported, with Christian Gibbs from Banks competing among the players. The course is back to its former glory after all the recent rain and the sun shone.
There was no doubt who the star of the show was, Geoff Blackburn who shot an impressive 73 to win the Gross prize. 1st Net was won by Curtis Johnson shooting a 64 net, in 2nd place was  Livingstone Webster with 66 net & in 3rd place was Bob Gaskin with a net 68. Pam Hiles won the ladies longest drive while Rolf Phillips won both nearest to the pins and men’s longest drive.
After the prize giving everyone enjoyed ‘Happy Hour’ on Banks products which most people took full advantage of and had a great time with live music a little later on.

Mount Gay

The Mount Gay Stableford

Marc McCollin presents the prizes to the 2 top winners, Michelle Goddard & Clarence Hiles

As always The Mount Gay Stableford proved to be a popular competition with the scoring very close. We had a rare Saturday this week with no rain to dampen the spirits and the course was playing very well so no-one had excuses of recent weeks.
The two ‘Nearest to the Pin’ prizes on 2/11 & 6/15 were won by Livingstone Webster & Gordon Keenan respectively. Third prize in the 15+ flight was won by Doreen DaCaries, in 2nd place was David Fields and winning by 2 points with 40 Stableford points was Michelle Goddard. In the 0-14 Flight the scores were even better with Neville Brewster collecting 3rd spot and Judd Cozier losing out on count-back to the winner & Club Captain, Clarence Hiles with 41 stableford points.
After the prize giving, Clarence thanked our sponsor Marc McCollin from Mount Gay who was kind enough to take time from his busy schedule to come to Rockley & present the prizes. Following the prize giving there was a lot of fun had while enjoying the flavours of Mount Gay’s many products.

First Caribbean

RICKY WINS FIRST CARIBBEAN

Neville Brewster, 0 - 14 Net Winner                                 Ricky Skeete, Open Champion collects his prize                  Linda Ridout, 15+ Net Winner

Ricky Skeete made light of the wet conditions under foot to win the top prize in the First Caribbean Open last Saturday. A heavy downpour in the morning threatened the competition, but although the conditions were not conducive for low scoring, the former Barbados national player produced a tremendous performance when he scored a 67 gross to win by seven shots from his nearest rival.
Neville Brewster (net 67) won the top net prize in the low section from Lennox Mirjah (68) with club captain Clarence Hiles (70) in 3rd place. There was a much tighter finish in the high section where Linda Ridout (35pts) won the Stableford format after a count-back from Carl Naitram. The veteran New Yorker Ted Hinds (34 pts) took third place on a day when points gained were worth at least five more because of the wet conditions. Pat Freidt (89) won the gross prize in the high section.
Gayle Fields and Curtis Johnson won the two Nearest-the-Pin prizes and Ajahni Stephenson, grandson of former Barbados cricketer Franklyn Stephenson, won the junior prize.
First Caribbean International Bank’s Head of Retail Banking Rolf Phillips thanked the organizers and his staff for all their work in staging the competition, and pledged his support in the future. He highlighted the bank’s commitment to community activities and their goal to provide excellence in everything they promote. Club Captain Clarence Hiles thanked Mr Phillips on behalf of the club, and complimented the sponsors on their excellent delivery of a top quality competition.
The evening finished with a buffet dinner provided by Mulligan’s Restaurant and live entertainment and dancing.

St Lucia Tournament

 St Lucia Golf Tournament

Gillian Hasler celebrated her birthday in style when she joined forces with Linda Ridout to win the Twoball Betterball at Rockley on Saturday and both can now look forward to a trip to St. Lucia, two nights at the Village Inn and two rounds of golf at the St Lucia Golf Course on Cap Estate. Husband Mark Hasler was noticeably well off the pace, although he did win the Nearest-to-the-Hole at the 2nd/11th.
Gillian and Linda won on countback from Sean Mesick and Brian Woods who also shot a net 62 and just one shot behind came Rolf Phillips and Dr. Bob Gaskin. Bob and Rolf edged out Neville Brewster and Ignius Smart, while Damian Wilfred won the other Nearest-to-the-Hole prize at the 6th/15th.
There was a good turnout of visitors for the competition and Club Captain Clarence Hiles thanked secretary Neville Brewster for organizing the prizes and Charlie Heath for being one of the sponsors. He also primed the members on the forthcoming First Caribbean Open on Saturday 7th August which is one of the top competitions on the club calendar, and is followed by a barbeque and live music in the clubhouse.

Banks Medal

Banks Monthly Medal

July’s always a quiet month here at Rockley but the competition is still fierce! Saturday was no exception, before the tournament there was a lot of banter about who was going to win. In the end Mark Hasler, who in his eyes, (no one else’s!), was the pre-tournament favourite because of his new clubs. It was rumoured that Judd Cozier cried off at the last minute because he saw Mark warming up with the new clubs.
As things turned out the scores were very close: Lennox Mirjah & Paul Lewis, won the 2 nearest to the pin with Linda Ridout & Rolf Phillips winning the longest drives. 3rd place Net went to Victor Forde & 2nd place, losing on count-back went to Maurice Clarke to the eventual Net Winner Anthony Kirton with a score of 67. The Gross prize went to Mark Hasler with a score of 80 who celebrated by drinking as much Banks as possible!!
